Sometimes it’s good to be selfish

22 May

Sometimes it’s good to be selfish.

With technology constantly changing , companies going global and travel becoming more common, there are so many more options available for what we want to do with ourselves now than there were 20 years ago.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Decisions are hard to make at the best of times, but when you start factoring other people in to the mix it just becomes a lot more complicated.

Now don’t get me wrong, when you have a family or significant other, then of course they should be part of your decision-making.

It’s when you start thinking about friends, colleagues, bosses, acquaintances, exes and society in general that you need to become selfish.

The best person to decide what’s best for you, is you.

I’ve been trying to make a career decision and thinking about how it would affect various people in my life. With all these variables, weighing up my options became incredibly exhausting and stressful. Finally one day (about an hour away from going mad) I just stopped thinking about everyone elses opinion and chose what would be best for me. And voila, decision made.

Being selfish sometimes means focusing on yourself and trusting your own opinion, after all, you have to live with yourself for the rest of your life so you’d best make sure your decisions will make you happy.

So put yourself first and be a little selfish sometimes!

When I realised I’d grown up

17 May

It sounds strange right?

You should know when you’ve grown up but somehow the realisation that I was a grownup snuck up on me one day.

Parents always tell their children to enjoy their childhood because it doesn’t last forever. Well turns out they were right!

I was in a supermarket, a young girl and her brother were standing in the middle of the isle and the girl said to her brother,

“Move so the lady can go past”

I had just hit 20 something and suddenly I was referred to as a lady and not a girl anymore.

Then it dawned on me, I am a grown up now.

Somehow being called a Lady made me think about the fact that my childhood is long gone and children now look at me as an adult. It was just as my parents had warned me, you’re childhood will be over before you know it.

We all get so busy living life that when we stop to look up, we wonder where the time has gone.

But being a grown up isn’t so bad, I’ve picked up some wisdom along the way and building my future is pretty exciting stuff. Each phase of life brings with it new perks and new challenges and I look forward to seeing what comes next.

So thank you, random girl in the supermarket, I’ll take the title of Lady with a smile 🙂

Hello world!

17 May

After a year of contemplating it, I finally have a blog!

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought about or seen something ridiculous and thought, “I have to write about this”.

I’ve taken to Twitter to share my thoughts but lately 140 characters just isn’t enough, so here goes!

I plan to travel the world, write a book and start up my own company by the time I’m 40.

Yes, very.

My blog is about my thoughts, views and notions about any and everything I encounter on my journey through life.

I have a crazy mix of friends and family around the world who I love to bits and all influence my life in some way.

Life is full of surprises, twists and turns which we all have different views on and here I plan to share mine.

So happy reading and feel free to comment on anything you like!
